Abbreviations Explained

Tip/Gratuity: An additional amount of money given to service workers as a thank you for good service.

Bill/Check: The total cost of goods or services before tip is added.

Split: Dividing the total cost (including tip) among multiple people.

Per Person: The amount each individual pays when splitting a bill.

How the Calculation Works

Simple percentage-based calculation:

Tip Amount: Bill amount × Tip percentage
Total with Tip: Bill amount + Tip amount
Per Person (if splitting): Total ÷ Number of people

Example: $85 bill, 20% tip, split among 4 people:
• Tip: $85 × 0.20 = $17.00
• Total: $85 + $17 = $102.00
• Per person: $102 ÷ 4 = $25.50 each

US Tipping Guidelines:
• Restaurants: 15-20% (20%+ for excellent service)
• Delivery: 15-20% ($3 minimum)
• Bartenders: $1-2 per drink or 15-20%
• Taxis/Rideshare: 15-20%
