Abbreviations Explained
401(k): An employer-sponsored retirement savings plan that allows employees to contribute pre-tax dollars from their paycheck.
Employer Match: Additional contributions made by your employer, typically a percentage of your contribution (e.g., 50% match up to 6% of salary).
Vesting: The process of earning ownership of employer contributions over time.
Contribution Limit: The maximum amount you can contribute annually, set by the IRS ($22,500 for 2023, $23,000 for 2024).
Catch-up Contribution: Additional contributions allowed for people age 50 and older ($7,500 extra in 2023-2024).
RMD (Required Minimum Distribution): Mandatory withdrawals that must begin at age 73.
