Abbreviations Explained
BMI (Body Mass Index): A numerical value derived from your weight and height used to categorize body composition.
kg (Kilograms): Metric unit of mass/weight (1 kg = 2.205 pounds).
lbs (Pounds): Imperial unit of weight commonly used in the United States.
cm (Centimeters): Metric unit of length (1 inch = 2.54 cm).
Underweight: BMI below 18.5, may indicate insufficient body weight.
Normal Weight: BMI 18.5-24.9, considered healthy weight range.
Overweight: BMI 25-29.9, above normal weight range.
Obese: BMI 30 or higher, significantly above healthy weight range.
How the Calculation Works
BMI uses a simple formula based on weight and height:

Example: Person weighing 154 lbs, height 5'7" (67 inches):
• BMI = (154 / 67²) × 703
• BMI = (154 / 4,489) × 703
• BMI = 24.1 (Normal weight)
BMI Categories:
• Below 18.5: Underweight
• 18.5-24.9: Normal weight
• 25.0-29.9: Overweight
• 30.0+: Obese
Note: BMI doesn't account for muscle mass, bone density, or body composition. Athletes and muscular individuals may have high BMI despite being healthy.
